My boyfriend is pressuring me to have sex. What should I do? Distressed, NT.

Ever opened your Christmas presents early? It can be awesome. But sometimes you don't get what you really wanted... Then you have to sit around and watch everyone else open his or her packages only to find that the wait was probably worth it!

Sex can be like that. You have to be absolutely positively sure you are doing the right thing, at the right time, with the right person. And when you have been with someone for a while it sometimes seems like the natural progression from hugging and pashing is hopping on the good foot and doing the bad thing (sex)!

But there are a lot of things to consider before taking the plunge. First of all are the health reasons. Pregnancy; sexually transmitted infections and diseases; condoms; whether you and your body are prepared to go on the pill - all scary things you have to consider.

Then you have to be sure that he is the right guy. And you may never ever be sure of that, unless of course you do what some people do and wait until you are married.

Then there is the law! The age limit for sex is sixteen for a good reason. At sixteen you are considered morally responsible for you own actions. Essentially what that means is that if you get knocked up, you are old enough to look after a child for the rest of your life. AARRGGGHHH! How scary is that? Imagine - not being able to hang out with your mates, not getting any sleep, worrying about nappies, dummies, bibs, cots, baby food, and all sorts of baby garbage.

Now don't get me wrong, sex is a beautiful thing, especially if it is with a person you love. But all I'm saying, even from a guy's perspective, is make sure you are absolutely ready and prepared.

I can honestly tell you that most guys, dumb as we are, are usually ready and raring to jump in the sack and often don't consider the consequences. So the maturity and sensibility unfairly often falls at the feet of the girl...

So don't let your boyfriend pressure you. You will know when you are ready. And it may not be with this boyfriend. Don't be like Homer Simpson at a donut sale and rush into anything, other wise you might come out with a big belly!
