How can I talk to him without freaking out?

Dear Nate, there's a guy I REALLY like at school, but I'm way too nervous to talk to him. Every time I try my mouth goes dry and I say dumb stuff. How can I talk to him without freaking out? Nervous, NSW.

Firstly, don't just go up and tell him you LURVE him because he'll think you are ker-azy. It's best to start off with a bit of tact.
Assess your situation. Does he know your name. I tend to date people who know my name. Strange, I know. Figure out what he likes, for instance sport or music or The Matrix movies. This may involve some covert operations like:

• asking his friends
• stealthily eaves dropping on his conversations
• stealing his mobile and reading his texts
• wire tapping his phone

This way you can "randomly" strike up a casual conversation with him like "Hey, how was that footy match on the weekend," or "So do you like the new Jack Johnson CD?" or "How much do I look like Trinity in this leather catsuit?!"

Now that you have established a rapport, you can gradually develop your relationship. Eventually you'll reach the point where you feel comfortable enough to tell him you like him and ask whether he would like to hang out and, I don't know, watch Keanu Reeves dodge bullets in super slow motion?
