Hi Girlfriends,

I have just returned from travelling around Oz with the Girlfriend Model Search Roadshow. I expected to meet lots of amazing girls, and there were, and I expected for it to be crazy and fun, and it was, but the experience wasn’t entirely like I thought it would be.

Five things I learnt at this year’s Girlfriend Model Search that I never expected to...

1. Australian girls are not the same the country over. In my very unscientific observation Adelaide girls have more than your average share of strawberry hair, lots of Brisbane girls are super-sporty, Melbourne girls are way louder than Perth girls (who are very laid back), and Sydney girls are like a mixtape of styles.

2. I am really short. I always suspected that this was true – but now I know this for sure. And that’s because there are just so many of you tall girls out there. Not that there’s anything wrong with being short...

3. Lots of girls LOVE bad boys. I mean Ed Westwick bad. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised – I used to love bad boys, like Dylan from 90210, and bad buys can look good too, but it still surprised me, that’s all.

4.Travelling around the country every week sounds uber cool, but trust me it ain’t. Sure, it is for a bit – when all those plane snacks and cute little hotel bottles of shampoo are still a novelty - but, spending 90 per cent of your time inside starts to send you loopy.

5. You are all waaay more confident than I was as a teen. I know for certain I would have never gotten up to strut my stuff on a catwalk in front of a crowd. I admire that so many of you did, but for those who chose not to, I totally understand where you are coming from!

You may have noticed that Girlfriend looks a little different this month – these are my very favourite bits: I LOL-ed at the Guy Space pages, adored the new beauty section, and couldn’t get enough of the Front Row and True Stories pages. Glamouriser looks super glam and the fashion pages are as hot as ever, but I love the Role Model and My Room pages most of all. Something about girls in their own environment doing their own thing is just so cool. I hope you love it as much as ever. Enjoy!
