October 08 Girlfriend Mag is OUT NOW!

Hi Girlfriends,

I am always impressed by people who know exactly what they want to do in life. The thing is, when I was at school I had no idea – actually, make that too many ideas. From journo, to dancer, foreign diplomat to architect, my career direction changed on a weekly basis. And as it turned out, my career in magazines began about as far from editing Girlfriend as possible – I sold ads in a backpacker magazine! It doesn’t get much less glamorous than that! But, one internship, two degrees and five jobs later (phew!) and I landed the best job ever! If only I could tell my teen self that everything would work out okay in the end. Or perhaps what I needed was someone to tell me that if I didn’t get the degree/job/cadetship, my career was not all over. And that’s why in this issue we have some seriously useful and honest tips about planning for your career (pages 64-75). And BTW, it’s a fun read, too.

Don’t tell anyone, but...
After taking an office poll I think most people either really love or really hate Miley Cyrus. Personally I was (ahem) a hater, until I saw the 'Best of Both Worlds' movie. For those who haven’t seen it, you see Miley behind the scenes with her family. JoBro are also in there in all their glory, and there’s a scene where a whole lot of desperate dads race each other in high heels in order to win their daughters tickets to Miley’s show. What’s not to love?! And whilst I am coming out of the closet as a secret Miley fan, I may as well admit that I really like her single. I know I’m not alone – lots of people out there must be buying her music for her to make her all that money, right?
