Your say: Is Australia racist?

Recent attacks on Indian students in Australia has sparked outcries that we're a racist country. Despite supposedly giving everyone a 'fair go', events like this and the Cronulla riots in 2005 make us question whether the strong sense of a multiculturalism in Australia really represents reality. We want to know what you think!

Is Australia a racist country? Have you ever experienced racism - on either side?

It depends how the person is brought up to be racist or not. I have a friend who is really really racist about cultures that some of her FRIENDS are ! To be honust i am never racist but that is how im brught up.

Racist or not, isn't racism rampant in all other countries, not just Australia?? It is just the disgusting human tendency to be prejudice and in turn, make that into actions. Its sad, we just have to try harder and be more open minded and accepting towards each other.

I completely agree with desilex and tiger_chick. Our behaviour, whether we admit to it or not, is highly influenced by our parents' values (or lack thereof) and beliefs from a very young age. These values vary; after all, we are a multi-cultural nation. You know what else? It's not just "white" Aus-

-Australians who are judegmental and prejudical against other races. There are other cultures in our country who contribute to this "racism", and sexism, too.

dude. people can call us rascist over the tiniest of things while the FOBS can get away with so much stuff. who cares if were rascist, while the fobs are here they shud respect OUR culture like we have to in their countries. this isnt the new [profane]ing china.
