Hey TV Hitsers!
It's been a while since I've last sat down to write to you guys but you wouldn't believe how busy the TV Hits office has been of late! Plus, I just got back from the USA! Can you believe that the very kind people at Disney flew me over to L.A for the exciting DVD launch of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End? I told you working at TV Hits is the best!! Anyway, so I flew in to L.A and Disney put me up in the very swish Renaissance Hotel right off Hollywood Boulevard- I could even see the Hollywood sign from my bedroom!
The next day we went out to Santa Monica Beach (past Beverly Hills and all the crazily HUGE celebrity homes. This place is wild!) where I attended Pirate Boot Camp. Now that was an experience to remember! Because Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is released on DVD on November 21, Disney felt it was time that us journalists head along to Pirate Boot Camp to see what it's really like to be a pirate ourselves... This could be interesting. The beach was set up like a movie set and we have to learn to climb the rigging, sword fight like a pro (the stunt doublesdoubles from the film showed us how it was done), go pirate school and learn to talk the talk (Ahoy, me hearty!),interview a couple of the Pirate stars- Marty and Lee and finally, get the full, all-over Pirate transformation from the makeup and costume crew that worked with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom!! It was amazing! And lucky for me, the makeup washed off, otherwise I would have looked like a real weirdo, trekking around Hollywood dressed as a pirate!
Day two of my press junket consisted of a trip to a little ol' place called... DISNEYLAND!! The guys from Disney showed us all around the park and we got to interview Kathy Rogers, one of the people who helped create the Pirates of the Caribbean ride! Was this a dream?I'm not too sure but one of the things I do know is that Disneyland really is one of the happiest places in the world! So there you have it! If you're lucky enough to get invited along to one of these press junkets, one thing is for sure- you'll get spoiled rotten and have the time of your life! I know I did! So when the movie comes out on November 21, see if you think I could make it as an extra, or better still, as Keira Knightly's understudy especially in those lovey-dovey scenes with Orlando!!
'Til next time, me hearties!
x Odette
