In 2003, Egan moved to Los Angeles to advance his acting career.
His U.S. television debut was in the miniseries "Empire", followed by significant roles in the independent film "Alpha Male" and the feature "The Decameron" (aka "Angels and Virgins") playing opposite Hayden Christensen and Mischa Barton.
He appears in "Eragon" and "Resident Evil: Extinction".
Yahoo!7 caught up with the former Summer Bay star to talk about his new life and adventures in Hollywood!
So Chris, how has life been treating you since you left Australia?
The past three years have been a crazy ride.
When I first got here I was straight off to Rome for 6 months (to shoot Empires) - that was a huge job - and then I got some films and was shooting them overseas too.
So for the first two years it felt like I was travelling constantly and I really didn't get that chance to stay in touch with a lot of people.
"Vanished" is really the first job that has kept me here in the States and given me the opportunity to set up shop and make L.A. my home. So yeah, it's been a crazy journey, but I feel more settled now and more relaxed.
And what's been the highlight do you think?
I think the real highlight was making the move here - just preparing to come and making that trip.
I feel really lucky that I haven't been in a situation where I haven't been able to work.
Was that why you left the show specifically? To have a go at Hollywood?
I always wanted to go to Hollywood, it was always the dream.
And how does working on an American production compare to working here?
Well, when I started on "Home and Away" there were new people to meet and there was a cast, people I'd been watching as I grew up.
So it was a very similar thing moving to a new country and meeting a new cast and new producers and getting in front of the camera again.
Of course, it's just that everything is a little bigger, the sets are a little bigger, the cameras are a little bigger.
